Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) consisting of the full 44-amino-acid sequence of GHRH(1-44) with a trans-3-hexenoic acid modification at the N-terminus to enhance stability against enzymatic degradation. As a GHRH receptor agonist, tesamorelin stimulates pulsatile growth hormone secretion from anterior pituitary somatotrophs. Published clinical and preclinical research has investigated its effects on visceral adipose tissue reduction, hepatic lipid content, IGF-1 axis modulation, and metabolic parameters in lipodystrophy models.
